Hoshinbudoryu History

The Hoshinbudoryu began its history as the Hoshinroshiryu's Hoshin Budo Association, which was the regional organization for the United States East Coast, created by Shihan Rob Williams, and approved by Soke Glenn Morris. It was the largest group of instructors and black belts within Hoshinroshiryu, all certified under Shihan Rob Williams with the approval of Soke Glenn Morris.

On April 1st, 2006 when Dr. Glenn J. Morris, Hoshin founder and member of the World Head of Family Sokeship Council, passed away at his home in Lake Charles, La. The whole of Hoshin mourned the loss of our mentor, master, teacher and friend.

In the months that followed, the succession to Glenn's leadership of the Hoshinroshiryu was not crystal clear.

Soke Morris died without a last will and testament, and his wishes for the continued leadership of Hoshin were never otherwise legally documented within a charter, minutes, or bylaws.

In several documented emails written by Glenn to Rob and other Hoshinroshiryu blackbelts several months before Glenn's death, Glenn had referred to Rob explicitly as his successor in Hoshin. Many Ryu members, instructors, and blackbelts had been told in private since 2004 that the Ryu would be handed to Rob when Glenn retired. Rob was a senior instructor in Hoshinjutsu with the largest network of personally trained Hoshin black belt instructors under him, a kundalini survivor, and the creator of the Hoshin Healing System personally approved by Glenn.

However, after Glenn's death, an announcement was made on the Hoshinroshiryu member email list saying that Glenn had left specific written instructions for his succession, and that those instructions would soon be revealed. But these written instructions were never produced, and this created a political situation where a few of Glenn's business managers within the Ryu told Gord Hessie that he was Glenn's choice for successor, while other Shihan in the Ryu affirmed they were told by Glenn that Rob Williams had been Glenn's choice for successor. There were also Glenn's emails.

Rob's Hoshin Budo Association black belts and some other long-time Hoshinroshiryu black-belts refused to accept a Hoshin Soke who had not gone through Kundalini Awakening, and who could not show mastery of the internal aspects of Hoshin that Rob and his own black belt James Alexander could clearly demonstrate.

Without a last will and testament, or any other legal document, stating Glenn's last wishes for the successor, the decision was made by Gord and Rob to run separate Hoshin Ryu. This was not to divide Hoshin against itself, but as an effort by both men to carry out Glenn Morris's wishes to the best of their ability, in order to preserve Soke Morris's teachings.

Gord Hessie was inducted into the World Multi Martial Arts Hall of Fame Sokeship Council as the Soke of Hoshinroshiryu Jutaijutsu.

Rob Williams was inducted into the Martial Arts Masters World Federation Sokeship Council as the Soke of Hoshinbudoryu.

Rob continues to teach Glenn's complete and intact Martial, Healing, Chi development, and Kundalini Awakening systems, as well as presenting the esoteric courses that were in development with Glenn's East Coast Shihan under Glenn's oversight and with Glenn's approval, before his death...
